John Leard

Teaching Focus

Assistant professor, John Leard's, EdD, PT, ATC clinical expertise is in the evaluation and treatment of sports medicine and musculoskeletal patients. He teaches Examination and Intervention of Musculoskeletal Pathologies as well as the Scientific Inquiry series to graduate students in the Doctoral of Physical Therapy curriculum. Leard emphasizes clinical decision making and deductive reasoning in all of the courses he instructs using a variety of teaching methodologies, including audience response devices (clickers), to encourage active learning. He also teaches pre physical therapy courses in the undergraduate program to prepare students for their professional career in physical therapy.

Professional Interests

Leard engages in research related to the lower kinetic chain and clinical reasoning in musculoskeletal dysfunction.  His research is focused on applying findings generated through the scholarship of discovery to solve real problems in the professions, namely linking clinical findings with clinical syndromes in musculoskeletal issues.
