Master of Education (Elementary Education with Montessori Concentration)
The University of Hartford and the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC), through its Montessori Training Center of New England (MTCNE), have been working together to provide opportunities to educators interested in Montessori philosophy and pedagogy for many years. The Montessori Studies Initiative expands and formalizes the existing relationship with MTCNE through the Center for Learning and Professional Education in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) at the University of Hartford.
The University of Hartford now offers two graduate education degrees with concentrations in Montessori: one that combines the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Primary Diploma Course with graduate classes in Early Childhood Education and a new offering that combines the AMI Elementary Training Course with graduate classes in Elementary Education. Each results in a unique graduate degree with a focus in Montessori philosophy and pedagogy as well as contemporary studies in programs designed for preschoolers or elementary age students. Graduates of both programs can apply for a Connecticut State Teaching Certificate with a Montessori Unique Endorsement #110 allowing them to practice in public Montessori schools.
