Institute for Translational Research

The Institute for Translational Research furthers public scholarship and translational research through substantive paradigms, rigorous methods, and authentic partnership reciprocity. Our initiatives "translate" scientific results into relevant outcomes for community and the professions.

We aim to:

  • Promote scholarship of engagement and application in community, for community
  • Foster internal and external funding through effective grants administration
  • Support faculty development and intellectual contributions to the professions

special Initiatives

  • The Clinical Sciences Innovation Initiative supports interdisciplinary research and enriches undergraduate and graduate student experiences by establishing a collaborative environment between the clinical and engineering disciplines that lead to innovation in health-related fields.
  • Civic Design and Public WorkThe Initiative for Civic Design and Public Work is being incubated in the Center for Leadership in Education and Heath with through an initial partnership among the URBAN Hartford Node of the URBAN Research Network, Knowledge Designs to Change, and the Parent Inquiry Initiative (Parentii), a parent-to-parent democracy learning partnership with the Kettering Foundation and the University of Hartford’s Institute for Translational Research. As we co-construct this initiative, our intention is to increase civic possibility and success by serving as a creative space for: groups of residents to understand their civic influence; neighbors to develop their capacity for civic living and public work; emerging leaders and professionals to deepen their understanding of civic change and impact; issue networks to deepen both learning and practice; and for the intergenerational transfer of civic experience and know-how.

The Institute for Translational Research supports distinctive yet integrated content centers:
