Posture and Mobility Initiative

The Center for Health, Care, and Well-being is proud of its Posture and Mobility Initiative.  This initiative is closely aligned with many of the research agendas in the Department of Physical Therapy, but also crosses other disciplines in ENHP and throughout the University, such as engineering, nursing, and education.  One energizing aspect of the initiative is that research is being done in collaboration with numerous partners in hospitals, clinics, humanitarian groups, and other research institutions outside the University.

Barbara Crane and Adam Goodworth are two of the many faculty members actively working on this initiative.  Crane’s research has as its goal to improve the health, care, and well-being for people who use wheelchairs with two specific foci: The first is to be able to quantify sitting posture for people who use wheelchairs; The second is to prevent pressure ulcers and improve technology for wheelchair users.  Goodworth’s research strives to improve the health, care, and well being by understanding mechanisms of balance control.
