The annual Board of Regents’ Honor Awards Banquet is held in the month prior to commencement. This year Board of Regents Chairman Thomas Groark addressed the honored students, complimenting them, their faculty, and their family supporters. Groark stated, “Academic excellence is at the very heart of the University of Hartford. That is why the Board of Regents supports the Honor Awards and cares so much about this event. Every student receiving an award represents the best of the University and its future.”
ENHP proudly recognizes our students honored this April, 2011.
Junior Regents Awards: Certificates of Accomplishment were issued to two full-time juniors in ENHP for attaining the highest grade point averages in the college. Jayne Bortunova is an early childhood education major and Mason Munn is a health science major.
Senior Regents Awards: Two seniors in ENHP were presented with the Senior Regents Award. These students not only have high grade point averages but have demonstrated excellence and accomplishments directly related to their studies in activities such as research projects and papers, presentations, publications, independent studies and more. They are: Megan Marino and Caryn Silliman. Both award recipients are in the integrated elementary/special education program.
Ernest A. Dudley Award: The Ernest A. Dudley Award was established by the Class of 1968 in honor of Dr. Ernest A. Dudley, who was the Director of the University Evening College (now the Office of Graduate and Adult Services) from 1946 to 1969. Dr. Dudley received an honorary doctorate from the University of Hartford in 1969.The award is presented to the baccalaureate candidate with the highest grade point average, who has taken at least 60 semester hours of coursework at the University with at least 45 of those hours on a part-time basis. Laura Varga-Knowlton, from Storrs, Conn, is the 2011 recipient. Laura will receive a Bachelor of Arts in the integrated elementary/special education program in ENHP.
Solomon Elsner Award: The Solomon Elsner Award was established in 1962 by the Moses Fox Club in honor of Judge Solomon Elsner, who received an honorary doctorate from the University in the same year. This award recognizes the outstanding full-time graduating senior with the highest grade point average at the University of Hartford. This year’s recipient is Kara Kucharchik, a health sciences/physical therapy major. Kara achieved a 3.99 grade point average.
