About Our Gift Calculator
A pooled income fund is similar to a mutual fund. Your gift is pooled with other donors' gifts and assigned a proportionate interest in the fund. Current earnings of the fund-- dividends and interest only-- are paid out to each beneficiary pro rata on a quarterly basis.

The University of Hartford Pooled Income Fund (UHPIF) is invested with an asset allocation strategy intended to provide a reasonable rate of income balanced with growth of principal. The rate is therefore variable, but the payments are likely to grow over time. You may name a second beneficiary to receive lifetime income from your gift after your death. Ultimately, the principal will pass to the University of Hartford to be used in accordance with your wishes.

You must be at least 55 years of age to join the UHPIF, and a minimum initial contribution of $10,000 is required, after which gifts of $1,000 or more may be added as often as you like.

The benefits of participation in the GSGF include:
  • Lifelong income, varying around two to three percent, depending on prevailing market conditions, for one or two beneficiaries, for your share of the pooled fund's current market value;
  • An immediate charitable income tax deduction;
  • Capital gains tax avoidance for gifts of long-term appreciated securities;
  • Reduced estate taxes;
  • Professional investment management;
  • The opportunity to establish a named endowed fund at the University of Hartford or to provide a substantial benefit to the University of Hartford upon termination of your unitized share of the Fund.
