Before being named dean of the Hartford Art School in 2011, Nancy Stuart was executive vice president and provost of the Cleveland Institute of Art (2002-2011). She served on the faculty of the School of Photographic Arts & Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology prior to being elected chair of applied photography, followed by associate director of the school, and lastly, associate dean of the college (1984-2002). She was a founding faculty member of Lansing Community College’s Photographic Technology Program (1975-1984). She was an editor for the fourth edition of the Focal Press Encyclopedia of Photography released in 2007. Visual Studies Workshop Press published her photographic project DES Stories: Faces and Voices of People Exposed to Diethylstilbestrol in 2001. She served on the executive committee of the Society of Photographic Educators (SPE) national board of directors (2007-2015) and currently serves on the Board of Governors at the Hill Stead Museum in Farmington, Conn., and as an elector at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Conn.
