Hartford Art School to Host “National Portfolio Day” for High School Students

Approximately 1,200 high school juniors and seniors from around the Northeast will be coming to the University of Hartford’s Hartford Art School for National Portfolio Day on Saturday, Oct. 29, a day full of visual excitement, high emotions and exciting opportunities. Prospective art school students will bring their portfolios to be reviewed and critiqued by some of the 50 art schools and their representatives in attendance.

Noted Photographer James Welling to Speak in Hartford Art School’s Auerbach Lecture Series

The Hartford Art School’s photography department is hosting a lecture by noted abstract photographer James Welling. The lecture, which is part of the Hartford Art School’s Auerbach Lecture Series, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium, in the Harry Jack Gray Center on the University of Hartford campus, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford. Welling's talk is free and open to the public.

Hartford Art School Faculty to Put Artwork from Their Personal Collections on Display

The Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford will present Faculty Collects, an exhibition of selected work from the personal art collections of Hartford Art School faculty members. The artwork ranges in media, from ceramics, etchings, and woodcuts to oil paintings, illustration, photographs, and artists books.

Joseloff Gallery Presents Exhibition of Three-Dimensional Oil Paintings by Leslie Wayne

The University of Hartford’s Joseloff Gallery at the Hartford Art School announces the opening of Leslie Wayne: Recent Work, a traveling exhibition of lively, textural, and colorfully layered oil paintings organized by the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston School of the Arts in Charleston, SC. Combining the sensitivities of both sculpture and painting, the work of Leslie Wayne pushes the boundaries of her medium, toying with the definitions of painting, sculpture, and even topography.

Nancy Stuart Named Dean of the Hartford Art School

Nancy M. Stuart, former executive vice president and provost at the Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, has been named dean of the Hartford Art School (HAS) at the University of Hartford. Stuart, who has extensive experience as both an art educator and administrator, will assume her new position at the University on Nov. 14, said University of Hartford Provost Sharon L. Vasquez.
