Parking Advisory

With forecast heavy rains for Saturday and the potential for both river and flash flooding, students are asked to avoid parking in low-lying areas of parking lots C, D, E (along the tree line), F (eastern most entrance by the pond), and N-Annex. Cars should now be on higher ground within these lots or in Lot F (by Konover Campus Center). Vehicles should be returned to their assigned parking lots by 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.

Hartford Art School was a brand new building when I entered it in 1965. Back then it was a five-year program so I graduated in 1970. It was in that period I found my artistic footing. Although I received an M.F.A. from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1974, the 1960s opened up new territory – conceptual art, performance, interactive art, and site-specific installations. In the 1970s I was co-founder of an urban arts organization in Hartford that created hundreds of pop-up events (some were controversial so we called them “art attacks”) with people dancing in the streets, sky-writers, and inflatable sculptures bulging out of windows. By the 1980s I worked for the City of New Haven organizing city-wide community events that focused on creative collaborations. I expanded my ideas in the 1990s as state-wide artistic director for hundreds of large-scale public events I called “situations.” Next, I was creative director for the Connecticut Office of Culture & Tourism for 22 years providing more opportunities.

For the last 15 years I have been back in the studio focused on intimate events that involve people. In 2014, the New Britain Museum of American Art presented an exhibition of these works in a show called Space to Maneuver.  Currently I’m working on wall installations that can be turned and rotated plus a percent-for-art commission as well. I am a board member of the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan. My work is in private collections and the New Britain Museum of American Art.
