Parking Advisory

With forecast heavy rains for Saturday and the potential for both river and flash flooding, students are asked to avoid parking in low-lying areas of parking lots C, D, E (along the tree line), F (eastern most entrance by the pond), and N-Annex. Cars should now be on higher ground within these lots or in Lot F (by Konover Campus Center). Vehicles should be returned to their assigned parking lots by 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.

Jackie Roche is a freelance cartoonist and illustrator specializing in nonfiction history and journalism comics. She works both independently and in collaboration with writers and journalists.

Roche graduated from the Hartford Art School honors program summa cum laude in 2009 with majors in illustration and American history. She earned her MFA at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Her education at the Hartford Art School and the University of Hartford gave her a multidisciplinary foundation that she uses daily while researching and writing, illustrating and solving problems, and giving and receiving constructive criticism.

She has published comics and visual-narrative projects with clients who include Fusion, Harvard Library Office for Scholarly Communication, Symbolia magazine in partnership with Pacific Standard, and Symbolia in partnership with “Years of Living Dangerously” on Showtime, The Cartoon Picayune, The Nib in partnership with the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, VICE News, and various anthologies, including Irene, Unknown Origins and Untimely Ends, and the forthcoming Sweaty Palms and Colonial Comics: New England, 1750 – 1775 (vol. II).

She has previously written online course material for SCAD, and she designed and taught the course Art, Comics, and Transformative Journalism at Cornell College.

She is currently working with a journalist on a book about the Syrian refugee crisis.
