Artist, Educator

Brooklyn, NY

B.F.A., Sculpture, minor in Art History, 2010

I received my BFA in sculpture with a minor in art history from Hartford Art School in 2010.  After graduating from HAS, I continued work as an artist and educator, ultimately deciding to pursue my MFA at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. In 2014 I graduated from Pratt and also received my first considerable honor, an Upstart Award from Bustle, in which I was recognized as an emerging female artist with the potential to be one of the “driving forces of culture over the next 10 years.” Additionally, I had the opportunity to experience a studio visit with feminist artist Judith Bernstein, whose conversation and critique encouraged my “I am Venus” thesis series. Currently, I continue to live and create in Brooklyn, while also working as an Art Educator and Summer Camp Program Assistant at a private school in Manhattan.

My education at Hartford Art School was an incredible time of intellectual and artistic development. I am especially appreciative of the foundations curriculum, as it was essential to my growth as an artist. It provided me with the necessary framework to be an independent creator and critical thinker. Having an extensive training in a variety of media has broadened my skills and generated an artistic literacy that I apply to all aspects of my life and career. (Many of my recent projects utilize multiple media, blurring the line between sculpture, performance, and photography.) Overall, Hartford Art School stimulated my craving for visual art, and prepared me to be a lifelong learner, thinker, and creator.
