Parking Advisory

With forecast heavy rains for Saturday and the potential for both river and flash flooding, students are asked to avoid parking in low-lying areas of parking lots C, D, E (along the tree line), F (eastern most entrance by the pond), and N-Annex. Cars should now be on higher ground within these lots or in Lot F (by Konover Campus Center). Vehicles should be returned to their assigned parking lots by 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.

B.F.A., Visual Communication Design, 2014

Shelby Jones is a graphic designer and strategist at Great Monday, a small brand strategy company in Oakland, CA. She relocated to San Francisco just 6 months after graduation from the Visual Communication Design department in 2014. Knowing very few people in the Bay Area at first, Shelby was grateful to rely on HAS faculty to make connections with past alumni and friends at influential places like Skype, Adobe, and Landor. Shelby is an active member in the design community in San Francisco, specifically volunteering and organizing for the SF chapter of AIGA. She was first introduced to the AIGA community through Uhart’s VCD department. The networking events, panel discussions and resources she cultivated there helped develop her passion for not just design but for the community that supports innovation and learning through design. A unique skill Shelby attributes to her time at Hartford Art School is her knowledge of color theory. This practice was particularly useful when re-envisioning the brand identity for The Kitchen SF’s homepage—a series of three hand-rolled gradients are paired with a secondary color for typography. Shelby designs and writes for a variety of projects at Great Monday, including websites, books, email marketing, logos, presentations, event planning and packaging. Examples of her work can be viewed on her website
