Meet the Masters


June 25–29, 2018

Meet the Masters is designed to develop and strengthen ensemble playing and performance for jazz instrumentalists and vocalists in grade 9 through adults.  Read More

Music Industry


July 9–13, 2018 Students entering grade 11 through freshmen in college engage in seminars consisting of music industry topics and music production techniques and methodologies through the completion of real-world service projects with local businesses and institutions.  Read More

Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Preprofessional


July 9–20, 2018
9 a.m.–5 p.m.

An intensive training program for serious musical theatre performers ages 14–20, with a final showcase performance.  Read More

Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Junior


July 16–27, 2018
9 a.m.–5 p.m.

A comprehensive training program for young performers entering grades 4–8, with a final showcase performance.  Read More

From Studio to Stage


July 9–27, 2018

An intensive summer training program for serious students age 12–college.

A unique program in ballet training for dancers ages 8–11, with a final studio performance showcase each week of the program.

Dance Teacher Training Workshop

Hartt Summer Youth Festival


July 23–27, 2017
9 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

A holistic, full-day program for young musicians entering grades 6­–9, including ensemble and solo offerings. In the morning, students delve into instrument-specific techniques, repertoire, and ensemble work with distinguished HCD faculty.  Read More

For students, the Suzuki Student Institute offers intensive study in violin, viola, cello, guitar, piano, and flute. The Suzuki Teacher Workshop is designed for teachers who wish to gain expertise in Suzuki pedagogy.  Read More

Suzuki Early Childhood Education


Suzuki-based early-childhood music education for young students birth to three years. This program is a family's point of entry to The Hartt School Community Division's nationally recognized Suzuki program.  Read More

Young Composers Project: Summer Edition

The Young Composers Project: Summer Edition is a unique program designed for students of all experience levels to develop their own voice as a composer.  Read More

Summer Private Music Lessons


The Hartt School Community Division offers private music lessons for children and adults in piano, strings, winds, brass, percussion, voice, guitar, harp, organ, and music composition. Suzuki-method study is available for bass, cello, flute, guitar, piano, violin, and viola. Some instruments are available for students as young as 4 years of age. Lessons are offered both at our main-campus locations at the University of Hartford's Hartt School in West Hartford, Conn. and our Simsmore Square location in Simsbury, Conn.  Read More

Summer Dance Classes


HCD dance classes are held in the spacious studios of the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center (HPAC) in Hartford, Conn., close by the University of Hartford's main campus. Classes are taught by experienced and knowledgeable professional faculty. 2018 offerings include 8-week pre-K, Division I, and adult ballet classes.  Read More
