Assistant Director of Dance Administration; Dance Faculty, Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop
Melissa Chasse has worked for The Hartt School Community Division Dance Department since September of 2009. During this time, she has held a variety of instrumental administrative positions including Dance Department Consultant and Interim Administrative Leader, Program Manager, Communications Manager, Production Manager, Outreach Coordinator, Stage Manager, and Director of the Encore Performing Arts Program. Chasse brings a high level of administrative leadership experience to the Dance Department having served as Director of performing arts schools and programs in both the private sector and the Hartford Public School system for the past fifteen years. She was appointed Assistant Administrative Director of Dance at HCD in 2015 and continues to provide leadership for the tap, jazz, and hip hop programs.
Melissa is also a national award-winning tap and jazz choreographer whose work has been chosen for performances at venues such as the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre (New York, N.Y.), to be showcased in Tap Future for the New York City Tap Festival; the Apollo Theatre (Harlem, N.Y.), to be showcased in Amateur Night at the Apollo; and the Hudson Theatre (New York, N.Y.), to be showcased in Break The Floor. Additionally, her choreography was filmed by the American Tap Dance Foundation for archive deposit at The Lincoln Center Public Library (New York, N.Y.), and two of her works selected to represent the US in the World Tap Dance Championships for the International Dance Organization were awarded second and fourth place globally. Highlights of her choreographic accolades include the International Dance Challenge Ultimate Dance Challenge Champion, the National Dance Week Centerstage Award, the Art Stone Global Entertainer Award, and the American Dance Awards High Score Choreography Award sponsored by Capezio.
Melissa has taught as guest faculty with Connecticut Ballet, Connecticut Concert Ballet, Eastern Connecticut Ballet, and Connecticut Dance Theatre, among other private and public schools. She is a firm supporter of classical ballet training and is thrilled to share her accumulated administrative and artistic experience with The Hartt School Community Division Dance Department.
