Spring Festival

May 23–June 9, 2018

Hartt Community Division dance student

The Spring Festival is a three-week period of activities, including examinations for Division III students, performances and classroom showings for all students in the school, and parent/teacher conferences and master classes during the final week of the academic year. Spring Festival activities, performances, examinations and master classes are part of the program of study at the HCD, and all enrolled students are expected to participate as a part of the completion of their academic year of study.

WEEK 1: May 23–25

Division III Final Examinations

Levels 4, 5, and 6 present their final movement examinations during these three days prior to the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Specific schedules are provided to students in advance, but please expect some minor modifications to the schedule.

All examinations are held in Studio 3 with a panel of dance professionals sitting for the exams.

Limited seating for parents of students taking examinations is available. Students in other levels may have an opportunity to observe some parts of the exams or rehearsals for the exams.

Examinations are an important opportunity for HCD to evaluate the work of individual students, entire classes, and programmatic approaches. It is also a valuable tool for faculty and staff in making decisions concerning future changes and improvements in the program, student needs, and promotions. Examinations at HCD will never be used as a basis for dismissal or demotion, but rather as a part of our constructive approach and commitment to the continued quality and excellence of our training program.

Week 2: May 29–June 2

Performances and Presentations

Divisions I, II, and III, as well as Youth Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop classes are performing during this week. Rehearsals and special showings of certain classes take place during the week, including showcase performances on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at HPAC, culminating with a performance at Milliard Auditorium on Saturday evening. The evening performance at Millard includes the presentation of awards and scholarships.

The Spring Festival schedule, with specific information about activities for each class level, is available online (PDF). Students receive a highlighted hard copy of this schedule in advance of the performances and presentations.

All performances are open to the public. Ticket presale periods for enrolled students are scheduled so family members have priority seating. Tickets for the general public go on sale May 15 and are $5 each.

Week 3: June 4–9

Masters' Week and Parent/Student Conferences

The final week of classes for the academic year features master classes for students in all Divisions of the Classical Ballet Program, as well as Youth Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop classes. Schedules are provided to HCD students in advance.

Faculty members are available during Week 3 for conferences. Parents are welcome to schedule conferences if they would like to meet personally with their child’s instructor. Information about scheduling a conference is provided to parents/caregivers in advance.

The final day of classes for the academic year is Saturday, June 9, 2018.
