Esther Shuyue CaoEsther Shuyue Cao is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist before applying her talents as a composer. Her main instrument is guzheng (the Chinese zither). She also plays erhu, pipa, hulusi (the cucurbit flute) and piano. She holds a bachelor degree in composition from Wichita State University and a Master of Music degree from Mannes College (NYC). She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The Hartt School.

Outside of school, Shuyue Cao is a member and soloist of Chinese Music Ensemble of New York and a composer-in-residence for San Xia Chinese Traditional Orchestra. She has been awarded as a visiting professor from Yayue Culture and Fine Art Center in Hubei, China. Her music has been featured in many places both in the United States and China, such as June in Buffalo, Boston Musica Viva, University of Maryland, and the Shenzhen School of the Arts.
