Talent Identification Program Music

The University of Hartford’s Hartt School Community Division is awarding five scholarships for choral or instrumental ensembles for the 2018–19 season. Students ages 6–10 by September 1, 2018, who are currently enrolled in the Hartford Public School system are encouraged to apply.

Please contact Margaret Spear to reserve a seat at our orientation by June 30, 2018. Reservations can be made by calling 860.768.4718 or emailing Margaret Spear at wyporek@hartford.edu.

Upon making your reservation, applicants will be asked to
gather the following materials for consideration:

  • Proof of enrollment in the Hartford Public School system.
  • Proof of residency in Hartford County.
  • A Talent Identification Program application to be
  • provided by The Hartt School Community Division.
  • A letter from a parent or guardian indicating a commitment to provide transportation to and from the University of Hartford’s The Hartt School, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, Conn. Classes are held once or twice a week from September through June.
  • Optional: Financial application to be provided by The Hartt School Community Division.
  • Optional: Letter of reference from a public school teacher.
  • Optional: Letter from the student indicating interest in the music program.

Scholarship applicants and parent/guardian will be required to attend an orientation on Thursday, July 26, 2018. At that time, all application documents will be due. In addition to the orientation, families will view a mini recital, and students will participate in a brief informal audition. Scholarships will be awarded by August 18, 2017. Priority will be given to Hartford residents and to those who demonstrate financial need.

At the close of the season in June 2019, one student will be awarded a merit-based lifetime scholarship.

Dance

Talent Identification Program

The University of Hartford’s Hartt School Community Division is awarding five scholarships for ballet classes. Students that meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Males and females ages 6–8 by September 1.
  • Currently enrolled in the Hartford Public School system.

Upon making your reservation, applicants will be asked to gather the following materials for consideration:

  • Proof of enrollment in the Hartford Public School system.
  • Proof of residency in Hartford County.
  • A Talent Identification Program application to be provided by The Hartt School Community Division.
  • A letter from a parent or guardian indicating a commitment to provide transportation to and from the dance studios at the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center at 35 Westbourne Parkway in Hartford. Classes are held once or twice a week from September through June.
  • Optional: Financial application to be provided by The Hartt School Community Division.
  • Optional: Letter of reference from a public school teacher.
  • Optional: Letter from the student indicating interest in the ballet program.

Scholarship applicants and parent/guardian will be required to attend an orientation in July. At that time, all application documents will be due. In addition to the orientation, families will view a sample class and a performance rehearsal, and students will participate in a brief informal audition. Scholarships will be awarded by mid August. Priority will be given to Hartford residents and to those who demonstrate financial need. At the close of the season in June, one student will be awarded a merit-based lifetime scholarship.
