Former Student: Jared Kallet
Jared Kallet is fluent in the language of equity sales, stock fluctuations, and banking transactions. His fluency stems from summer internships for investment banking firms based in New York City and for the Fox Entertainment Group in Los Angeles.
Kallet says that without the confidence he gained while a student at Hillyer, he would never have had the self-possession needed to maneuver among the movers and shakers of Wall Street.
A 2007 graduate of the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business, Kallet started his college career at Hillyer. "Hillyer was a great experience for me," he says, "because I knew I was smart, but I had not performed well academically. The encouragement I received at Hillyer helped me develop a sense of what it means to be successful."
Feeling more at home in the world is also something Kallet attributes to his time at Hillyer. Because he was a Hillyer honor student, he qualified for a three-credit Winterterm program that took a group of students to Mexico to explore some of the most famous Mayan ruins and archaeological sites in the Yucatan Peninsula.
"The trip to Mexico was such a confidence booster for me," says Kallet. "I saw that I was able to move around and communicate in another country. It opened my mind to new experiences and travel." Once Kallet’s mind was open, he kept it open. He spent a semester studying in Prague and traveling throughout Europe. "Prague is beautiful," he says, "but I also love Amsterdam and Krakow. The traveling I did while at Hillyer helped me to have a much deeper appreciation for different cultures."
