Alumni Profile - Keith Larit
Keith Larit, ’98, loves competition and is energized by change. That’s partly why he’s so well suited for his position as vice president for equity sales at Lehman Brothers, one of the largest investment banking firms in the world.
Larit, who received Hillyer’s Distinguished Young Alumnus Award in October 2007, disseminates Lehman’s research and trading ideas to his hedge fund clients. He brings a kind of yin and yang approach to his job the fast foot-work needed to handle stock sales executed on a sturdy underpinning of research and information. In the inconstant world of the stock market, providing investment advice to clients is always challenging, and Larit says that the role of quality research is critical.
Hedge funds are trying to accurately invest in ideas where they have a high conviction of where prices are going, Larit says. My job is to provide them the resources to help them do that, to make the best possible decisions.
Asked how he has garnered so much responsibility while still in his 20’s, Larit, who graduated from the University of Hartford in 2000, says he thinks it’s because he’s hardworking, proceeds thoughtfully, and understands that building relationships is essential in his business. You dedicate yourself to figuring out what’s valuable to your clients and giving them that on a daily basis.
Bringing pinpoint concentration to his work is something Larit says he first learned at Hillyer. I needed to be focused and channeled and Hillyer did that for me. I learned how to get the task at hand done in the most efficient way possible.
