As a Hillyer College student, you will begin as a liberal studies major. To enhance your program of study, you may select an area of concentration, such as American studies. You then become a liberal studies major with an American studies concentration. Students who do not select a concentration will remain liberal studies majors.
Concentrations provide a thematic focus of study through four or five interrelated courses that enable you to delve deeper into a subject area. You might also choose a concentration to begin early preparation for a specific academic area, such as education or business. Concentration courses are available to you each semester.

Students in the environmental studies program have helped identify Hartford-area river watersheds for permanent wetlands protection status, and, in kayaks and canoes, they’ve studied the history and ecology of the Connecticut and Farmington Rivers.
