A blizzard warning goes into effect for our area this evening and Connecticut has issued a statewide travel ban starting at 9 p.m. The University is now closed as of 3 p.m. today and will be closed all day tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 27.  Day and evening classes are canceled through tomorrow. An updated advisory on the status of classes and operations for Wednesday will be posted Tuesday evening. During the time that the University is closed, the Commons, Subway, and Village Market will maintain regular hours for residential dining services and the Sports Center will be open for use by residential students only. J. Lee Peters

J. Lee Peters has served as vice president for student affairs and dean of students at the University of Hartford since 2002. He is responsible for management of the student affairs division, which includes residential life; multicultural, career, and health services; counseling and psychological services; student centers and activities; judicial affairs; the community service and health education centers; the campus ministries; and services for students with disabilities.

In 2004, he served as dean of students on the summer voyage of the Semester at Sea program.

Prior to assuming his post at Hartford, Peters had served for four years as vice chancellor for student affairs at Montana State University-Billings, where he was also an assistant professor of educational foundations, and chaired a master's program in Student Personnel in Higher Education.

Previously, Peters was dean of student life for eight years at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. From 1988-90, he was director of residence life at the University of Alaska Fairbanks; from 1986-88, he served as director of student activities, intramurals and recreation, and career services at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, and from 1984-86, he was director of residence life/summer conference coordinator at Ohio Dominican College in Columbus.

Peters has presented and consulted throughout the United States on topics such as organization influence, diversity, customer service excellence, and building high-functioning teams.

Peters earned a BS from Michigan State University in 1978, an MS from The Ohio State University in 1985, and an EdD from the University of Utah in 1998.
