Brian Bushwell of Livingston, N.J. received a 2010 Anchor Award from the University of Hartford during a ceremony held on campus on October 2. An Anchor Award, the most prestigious award presented by the University of Hartford Alumni Association, recognizes alumni who have reached the highest level of professional accomplishments and possess absolute standards of integrity and character that positively reflect and enhance the prestige of the University of Hartford.
Bushwell earned a BS in insurance 1989 from the Barney School of Business. Since then he has been successful in business on several different fronts. He currently sells group health, personal and business life insurance for The Bushwell Organization and is the managing director of Strategic Wealth, which is located in Roseland, N.J.
Bushwell also is the president of Youth Sports Live, a company he co-founded with fellow University alum and former Major League Baseball player Jeff Bagwell '89. The company developed youthsportslive.com, which features more than 200 Little League baseball games on the Internet, allowing everyone from parents to grandparents and friends to watch the games.
Bushwell is also active in his community of Livingston, where he serves on town-wide committees and boards. He is also a donor to the University of Hartford athletics program, including the Designated Hitters Club Fund. Bushwell was a member of the University of Hartford Hawks baseball team in 1988 and 1989. In 1988 he hit a then school record of 14 doubles and had an 18-game hit streak that included a five-hit game that ties the current school record.
Bushwell was one of six exceptional University of Hartford alumni honored during the Anchor Awards ceremony. The awards have been presented annually since 1962.
