A blizzard warning goes into effect for our area this evening and Connecticut has issued a statewide travel ban starting at 9 p.m. The University is now closed as of 3 p.m. today and will be closed all day tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 27.  Day and evening classes are canceled through tomorrow. An updated advisory on the status of classes and operations for Wednesday will be posted Tuesday evening. During the time that the University is closed, the Commons, Subway, and Village Market will maintain regular hours for residential dining services and the Sports Center will be open for use by residential students only. Kenneth R. Muskat of Miami Honored by the University of Hartford

Kenneth R. Muskat of Miami, Fla. received a 2010 Anchor Award from the University of Hartford during a ceremony held on campus on October 2. An Anchor Award, the most prestigious award presented by the University of Hartford Alumni Association, recognizes alumni who have reached the highest level of professional accomplishments and possess absolute standards of integrity and character that positively reflect and enhance the prestige of the University of Hartford.

Muskat earned a BA in Communication in 1994 from the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. As vice president of sales for Royal Caribbean International, he is responsible for consolidating the company’s distribution strategy and overseeing the field sales organization throughout the United States and Canada. Muskat is also responsible for inside sales, special events and sales communications.

Muskat has worked for Royal Caribbean for the past 15 years. In 2001 and 2003, he was named one of Travel Agent Magazine’s “Top 100 Rising Stars of the Travel Industry”.

Muskat is very giving to his local community of Miami, where he serves on the board of directors for the Children’s Cancer Caring Center, the only free pediatric oncology treatment center in the southeastern U.S. Muskat has been a key contributor to the United Way and Cystic Fibrosis Organization for the past 13 years.

The University has also benefited from Muskat’s generosity. He has mentored young alumni who have reached out to him for career guidance, and has offered to come back to the university to speak with students.

Muskat was one of six exceptional University of Hartford alumni honored during the Anchor Awards ceremony. The awards have been presented annually since 1962.
