The University of Hartford inducted alumni Gonzolo G. “G.G.” Pique, (MBA 1974), president and CEO of Energy Recovery, Inc. (ERI), and Patrick D. Tannock, (BSBA 1982) president of XL Insurance Bermuda, into the Barney School of Business Hall of Fame, during an on-campus ceremony on Jan. 26. Pique and Tannock were selected from a group of 18,000 alumni for their “outstanding achievements to promote global awareness and social responsibility.”
The two inductees were honored with the establishment of scholarships in their names. The Gonzalo G. Pique Scholarship was awarded to Margarita Oliverez, an accounting major from San Diego, Calif. Chioke Lodge, an MBA student from Bermuda, received the Patrick D. Tannock Scholarship.
Pique has been the head of ERI, a designer and developer of energy recovery devices for seawater desalination based in San Leandro, Calif., since 2002. He has driven and managed the evolution of the ERI business model and its organization from a $1.5 million/year garage operation into the dominant player in the industry with 70% market share. Before joining ERI, he was a senior vice president and corporate officer of US Filter Corp., a Fortune 500, NYSE company focused on the acquisition, turnaround, integration and growth management of more than 165 water treatment companies. He has more than 35 years’ experience in the water industry.
Tannock has been with XL Insurance in Hamilton, Bermuda since 2010. He has more than 25 years of experience in the Bermuda market and the international insurance and reinsurance industry, including a decade with Marsh & McLennan and 16 years with ACE Bermuda. Prior to joining XL Insurance, Tannock held the position of executive vice president as well as chief underwriting officer and director of ACE Bermuda's specialist directors and officers subsidiary, Corporate Officers & Directors Assurance Ltd (CODA).
The Barney School of Business is one of seven schools and colleges within the University of Hartford. It offers six undergraduate majors and two graduate degree programs in business.
