The University of Hartford will celebrate the 54th anniversary of its founding with a birthday party on Sunday, Feb. 20, immediately following the women’s basketball game against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, which tips off at 1 p.m.

The celebration, which is free and open to all, will take place in the Auxiliary Gym in the Reich Family Pavilion on the University of Hartford campus, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford. It will include cupcakes and ice cream, entertainment by the UHA Steppaz and the student a cappella group L’Shir, a clown and balloon animals for children. Guests will receive “Happy Birthday” buttons to wear on Monday, Feb. 21, which is the University’s actual birthday.

The basketball game between the University of Hartford and UMBC is the University’s annual “Pink Zone” game, raising money for the fight against breast cancer. Tickets for faculty and staff will be half-price, and admission is free for University of Hartford students.

The University of Hartford was chartered on February 21, 1957 when then Gov. Abraham A. Ribicoff signed legislation that allowed the Hartt School of Music, the Hartford Art School and Hillyer College to come together to form the University of Hartford.
