A blizzard warning goes into effect for our area this evening and Connecticut has issued a statewide travel ban starting at 9 p.m.. The University will close at 3 p.m. today and will be closed all day on Tuesday, Jan. 27.  Classes starting at 2:30 p.m. or later today will not meet. All day and evening classes tomorrow are canceled. An updated advisory on the status of classes and operations for Wednesday will be posted Tuesday evening. During the time that the University is closed, the Commons will maintain regular hours for residential dining services and the Sports Center will be open for use by residential students only. Global Warming Skeptic to Challenge Climate Change Claims at the University of Hartford

As many New Englanders are blaming global warming for the lack of winter weather, internationally known climate change skeptic Viscount Christopher Monckton will present his case that warnings about global warming have been overstated. Monckton will deliver his lecture, entitled “The Climate of Freedom,on Friday, March 2, at 2:30 p.m. in United Technologies Hall, Room 320, at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford. The lecture is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Viscount Christopher Monckton, a retired British international business consultant, writer and inventor, served as policy advisor to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He has gained international attention for his critiques of global warming. He has also examined related policy decisions with regard to their costs to the economy and to a free society. Monckton is currently the chief policy advisor for the Science and Public Policy Institute. For more information, visit
