About 600 athletes, 200 coaches, and more than 400 volunteers will gather at the University of Hartford on Saturday, May 12, for the Special Olympics Connecticut Eastern Regional Games. Joining them will be Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, who will offer remarks during the Opening Ceremonies, and current Miss Connecticut Logan West, who will be a guest speaker and an awards presenter.

Opening Ceremonies will start at 9:30 a.m. at the University of Hartford’s Sports Center. Opening Ceremonies and Aquatics competitions will be held at the University and track-and-field competitions will be held at Hartford Public High School. In addition, both venues will have an Olympic Town area where athletes can enjoy music, dancing, and arts and crafts.

The event is open free to the public. Corporate partners include Presenting Sponsor Hoffman Auto Group, Silver Sponsor Lincoln Waste Solutions, and Bronze Sponsor Merrill Lynch.

This is the ninth year that the University of Hartford has hosted the Eastern Regional Games, and the 2012 Eastern Regional Games are expected to be the largest Regional Competition held this year. Many of the athletes taking part in these Games will advance to the Special Olympic Connecticut Summer Games, being held June 8-10, in New Haven.
