University of Hartford Welcomes Nearly 1,600 New Students

August 27, 2016

“Welcome to each of you as a member of the University community and Hawk Nation,” University Hartford President Walter Harrison told the nearly 1,600 excited new students packed Lincoln Theater for their Convocation on Saturday, Aug. 27, in Lincoln Theater. “You will be a Hawk for as long as you live and, like me, you will be come very proud of that.”

Dean of Admission Richard Zeiser echoed President Harrison’s message. "Before you picked us, we selected you," he said. “Being admitted to the University of Hartford is something about which you can be very proud.”

Members of the Class of 2020 were chosen from more than 16,600 applicants, the largest pool in the history of the University. They arrived on campus from 33 states and 21 countries. The first-year international students represent a diverse mix from around the world, including Italy, China, Australia, Thailand, Denmark, Iceland, Ireland, and Portugal.

Our newest students will spend the next few days getting to know their classmates, campus, and surrounding community. On Sunday and Monday, Aug. 28 and 29, they will visit historical sites around Hartford, hike Talcott Mountain, eat at local restaurants, and take part in activities around campus. Classes begin on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
