Mathew Blocker-Glynn of Colchester Receives Outstanding Staff Member Award at University of Hartford’s Annual Faculty/Staff Kickoff
Mathew Blocker-Glynn of Colchester, a director of the Center of Community Service at the University of Hartford, was honored with an Outstanding Staff Member Award at the University’s annual Faculty/Staff Kickoff on Wednesday Aug 29. The award recognizes individuals who are exceptionally dedicated to the University of Hartford and who play a critical role in the success of the institution and its students.
For four years, Blocker-Glynn has exemplified the University’s motto “Committed to Community” by bringing together students, faculty, staff, and alumni for the benefit of the campus and Greater Hartford.
One of his more recent accomplishments was supervising the second annual Day of Service called “Hawks Helping Hartford”. In 2012 he organized 230 volunteers – more than twice as many as in 2011 – to clean, paint, and repair Hartford-area playgrounds, women’s shelters, and church grounds; the Connecticut riverfront; and Tabor House, which serves formerly homeless people with AIDS and HIV.
The list of charitable activities Blocker-Glynn organizes is long, including the annual Giving Trees to help children in need of holiday gifts; tying red ribbons around trees on campus in observance of World AIDS Day; Trick or Treat for UNICEF; a mitten collection for children; and Hartford for Haiti.
With his positive and friendly demeanor, he has made a significant difference in the lives of his colleagues, both professionally and personally.
