Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring?Linens, pillow, toiletries, alarm clock, casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes, pen and # 2 pencil, your social security number, and most importantly, your energy and enthusiasm! And don't forget your toothbrush!
How do I prepare for selecting my courses?
At Preview you will work with an academic advisor and a student orientation leader (a "Red Cap") to select and register for your courses. Make sure that your final transcript is forwarded to the Office of Admission as soon as it is available.
What if I am a transfer student?
Transfer students are encouraged to meet with, or talk on the phone with their advisor during the summer to plan their academic schedule for the fall. Although it is not required, transfer students are invited to attend any of the orientation sessions, however, the one-day session on August 29th is designed specifically for transfer students. You should bring a copy of your evaluation information and a grade report for courses not yet evaluated. Make sure that your final transcript is forwarded to the Office of Admission as soon as it is available. If you have an unofficial copy of your transcript, please bring it with you.
Is there a Parents Orientation program?
Yes, there is a day and a half program for parents of freshmen students that is separate from the student program. It is designed to acquaint parents with the services and staff of the University.
Is there a fee for the Parents Orientation program?
Each parent wishing to attend is charged a fee of $50. This money covers meals (lunch and dinner on the first day and breakfast on the second day), receptions, and materials. Parent fees should be sent in advance to: Orientation Office, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117. Checks should be made payable to the University of Hartford, and your student's name and social security number should be included on the check.
Payment may also be made online.
What arrangements have been made for lodging for parents?
Parents do not stay on campus with their sons and daughters. Several local hotels and motels are providing discounted rates for parents involved with the University of Hartford's orientation program. They are conveniently located and most are within 10-20 minutes of the campus. See the link to hotels and motels (on this website) and when you call, tell them that you are participating in the University of Hartford's orientation program.
Can brothers or sisters come to Orientation?
Yes they can, but they will have to spend all of the time with your parents. It is not an ideal situation for a sibling, so if alternate arrangements can be made, we recommend doing so.
