This is my story
This past spring, I joined a University group called Conversation Buddies. The goal of the program is to introduce international students to different aspects of life in America and at the University of Hartford. I met Marwan Alhussain, my conversation buddy, just a few weeks after he arrived in Hartford from Saudi Arabia.
Normally, Marwan and I just hang around and talk. We have been to the movies and he’s hosted me at his apartment, where he cooked a traditional meal for my friends and me. Eventually I am going to bring him to New York City and he says he’s going to bring me to Saudi Arabia.
I joined Conversation Buddies because I love to travel. I’ve been to Denmark, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Jordan, Thailand, and Tanzania. I always do some sort of volunteer work while I am abroad, so I really get to become part of the community. With the conversation buddy program, I get some of the benefits of going abroad without having to leave the country. My favorite part of traveling is meeting new people and learning all about their culture and I am getting to do that with my conversation buddy.
