Eligibility

Eligibility for Services and Accommodations

A disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual.

Students seeking accommodations or services from The University of Hartford are required to submit documentation to verify eligibility under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments Act of 2008. (Please refer to Documentation Guidelines for more information on specific criteria needed to be eligible for services/accommodations at the University of Hartford.)

The documentation must include a copy of the most recent evaluation, including testing results and a written summary. Documentation must provide an assessment of the current limitations of the disability on major life activities and recommendations for appropriate accommodations.

Please note that Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan are helpful, but are typically not considered as sufficient documentation to stand alone when determining eligibility.

Eligibility for accommodations is determined on a case-by–case basis upon review of the documentation and a collaborative intake interview appointment. Please note that accommodations are not retroactive.
