Meet the Staff

Matt Blocker-Glynn

Director

"Having a heart for making a difference means that something or someone made a difference in my heart first." - Lee Wise

Matt Blocker is originally from southeastern Connecticut. He attended Eastern Connecticut State University, where he received his B.A in History. Matt received his M. Ed in Human Relations Counseling while at PSU, and relocated to Connecticut to direct the University of Hartford's Center for Community Service. He has a long history of working in his local communities and enjoys mobilizing others to lend a helping hand.

"The University of Hartford is unique in its location. We sit in three municipalities, Bloomfield, West Hartford and Hartford. We have the chance to reach out to these communities, show our compassion, and have the chance to realize our civic responsibility on a greater level. Please stop by the Center anytime to find an opportunity you can participate in." - Matt Blocker-Glynn

Jason A. Colon

Front Desk Assistant

Jason A. Colon is a marketing major at the Barney School of Business. Now a junior, he has worked at the Center for Community Service since his freshman year where he exposed himself to the troubling literacy rates in the Hartford area. Working along with the nonprofit Everybody Wins! CT, he made his way from behind the scenes work, to being Program Coordinator at Betances Elementary and Burns Academy for Latino Studies. He loves mentoring children that seek outreach and growth academically and individually: “As a child I was always surrounded and influenced by mentors I had in my presence and who always gave me the extra push I needed to be successful. Many of these children are cut short of their dreams and success simply due to the absence of a role model figure in their lives.” Jason broadened his volunteer work in the Spring semester of 2012, where he along with other UHA students participated in Tornado relief work in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Jason continues to bring a great vibe into the Community Service Center, where he can easily persuade students the importance of volunteering thus is a prime example of the message we at the center exhibit.
