WELFund’s WELCorps Leaders Program was inspired by the way Hartford College for Women (HCW) challenged, empowered and at the same time supported its students. The WELCorps Leaders Program was developed in collaboration with on-campus partners in academic and student affairs to serve first- and sophmore- year students and was designed to respond to the unique opportunities, challenges, and transitions experienced by female students at each stage of their undergraduate experience. Limited to 20 female students per graduation class, this program involves an application process and annual commitment but offers exclusive benefits. In addition to providing tools, training, and techniques students can use to navigate college and life’s opportunities and challenges, the program aims to:
Additionally, the WELCorps Leaders Program participants receive the following benefits:
WELFund launched its WELCorps Leaders Program in 2012-2013, thanks to the generosity of Alison Gallagher Coolbrith ’65 and Barry N. Lastra, who made a very generous gift and offered to match every new or increased gift, and the greater WELFund community who responded.
WELFund is currently seeking applications to fill 20 spots available in the WELCorps Student Leaders Program for first-year female students in the Class of 2018. In 2013, 141 applications were received for the 20 positions offered at that time. As this Program is highly selective in choosing and supporting our student leaders, it is important that chosen individuals acknowledge the tremendous opportunity offered to them and agree to fully engage by committing to attending all bi-weekly, one-hour WELCorps sessions (with the goal of remaining in all four years of the undergraduate program) and attending at least four WELFund-sponsored events each year.
To apply to the WELCorps Leaders Program Class of 2018 please complete the online application by Sunday, June 22, 2014 (click here).
