The Wellness Committee in conjunction with HRD is challenging the University community to get out and Walk for Wellness by participating in the Spring Wellness Hawk Walk Competition. The program will work as follows:
  1. Select a captain and form teams of 5-7 members, choose a team name, complete the online registration or download the registration form (doc) and e-mail it to Jen Conley in HRD or at jconley@hartford.edu, or fax to x4732. Team members must be regular full time or part time faculty and/or staff members.
  2. Each team member must wear a pedometer daily to accurately track their numbers reflecting total daily steps taken. United Healthcare has provided a limited number of pedometers for those that did not receive one at the Wellness Fair. If you need one please note it on the Team form when you sign up.
  3. Team Captains will report weekly the number of steps each team member has taken.
  4. Further guidelines are available here.
HRD will track each team's progress on the HRD website during the weeks of January 5, 2009 through March 2, 2009. The team that collectively walks the most steps will win a gift card to a local sporting goods store. The person who takes the most steps will win a grand prize, to be determined.

Put your pedometer on first thing each
morning and keep moving all day long!

You will find a few mapped out walking routes on the University campus and the corresponding distance, use the maps or create your own path, whichever you choose, just get out and walk! A daily tracking sheet can also be downloaded below to tally your individual and team's steps.
