The Wellness Committee
In August 2008 the Benefits Task Force announced the formation of a Wellness Committee responsible for the development and delivery of a series of wellness initiatives. These initiatives are aimed at engaging the University community in wellness through education, self-awareness and various campus activities.
The wellness initiatives will offer health education materials, resources and a series of fun and valuable programs and activities aimed to help employees lower their risk of disease and improve overall health and well-being.
The Wellness Committee has six main goals:
- Engage the University community in the wellness initiatives
- Help employees identify their personal health risks
- Encourage personal responsibility for health and wellness
- Provide motivation and support to help employees make healthy choices
- Control health care costs through disease prevention
- Improve overall employee well-being
In conjunction with the University's medical insurance carrier, United Healthcare, as well as the University's broker, Chris Monroe, the Wellness Committee will lead these wellness initiatives. The committee is comprised of representatives from across campus and will benefit from the expertise that each member offers. The committee members are as follows:
Chairs:
Denise Bard- Human Resources Development - Co-chair
Jamie Harlow- Human Resources Development - Co-chair
Members:
Matt Blocker - Community Services
Karen Breda - ENHP - Nursing

Barbara Dessureau - Library
Patricia McKenna - Grant -Health Education and Women's Center
Damien Mierny - Barney School of business

In light of the ever-rising cost of healthcare we can all benefit from better health education and individual modifications that promote healthier lifestyles. We encourage all employees, whether United Healthcare participants or participants of other health plans to participate in these initiatives. We look forward to the upcoming inititives.
