Barbara Bartlik

Dr. Barbara Bartlik ’77 is currently an assistant attending psychiatrist at New York Presbyterian Hospital; an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College; a psychiatrist at Manhattan Psychiatric Center, a hospital for those with severe mental illness; and also maintains a private practice. She is also on the voluntary faculty at Lenox Hill Hospital.

The author of numerous scientific publications, Dr. Bartlik frequently is quoted in the media as an expert on sexual and psychological issues. She was formerly an investigator on pharmaceutical studies for female sexual dysfunction and is the medical advisor for the Prevention Health Book for Women entitled, Extraordinary Togetherness: A Woman's Guide to Love, Sex and Intimacy. She is coeditor of the book “Integrative Sexual Health,” a volume in the (Dr. Andrew) Weil Integrative Medicine Library, to be published by Oxford University Press.

Over the years, Dr. Bartlik has trained in integrative, complementary, and alternative medicine and was certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. Dr. Bartlik is committed to a holistic, individually tailored approach to treating sexual and psychiatric problems and supporting overall health. She tests her patients for micronutrient deficiencies and recommends nutritional supplements, where indicated, along with improved lifestyle practices and conventional therapies and pharmaceuticals.

A native of Port Chester, N.Y. Dr. Bartlik double majored in biology and chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences, graduated summa cum laude in 1977, and received the Regents Honor Award.

She went on to study at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and graduated in 1981 with honors in epidemiology. She did her internship, residency, and chief residency at New York University Medical Center. She then trained in sex therapy under the pioneering Dr. Helen Singer Kaplan at New York Hospital.

Dr. Bartlik is married to her husband of 30 years, David Carroll. They live in Manhattan and have two grown children.
