The University of Honors program requires completion of 18 credits for each college, with the exception of Hillyer College, which is 9 credits. Some of these credits can be earned by an Honors Contract for a regular course. All honors courses must be taken for a letter grade (not P/NP).

General Requirements

  • 6 credits of honors general education (e.g., honors WRT and UIS)
  • 6 or 9 credits of advanced honors courses (e.g., HON 300 seminars)
  • 6 or 3 credits of an honors thesis, a senior project, or an honors contract

For specific information on the honors requirements of each college, go to the Honors Coordinators. Students also must submit a Declaration Form to the Honors Coordinator of their college and maintain the required GPA.
