Where hardware meets software. The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program provides a solid foundation in computer engineering combined with a strong groundwork in software design and development.

Our program will give you a thorough understanding of how software is synthesized with hardware, giving you a complete understanding of how a computer works. This strong foundation prepares you to address any computing system challenge across the software-hardware spectrum. In addition, our expert faculty support you with one-on-one instruction and academic advising.

Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Hartford amplifies your goals by combining software development, computing theory, and engineering systems. Degree Requirements

You must complete a total of 96 credits that includes a combination of core computer science, mathematics, science, and engineering courses.

All computer science students start with following core classes that build a foundation in computing.

Among the courses are:

  • Architecture and Assembly Language  
  • Calculus I and II
  • Differential Equations  
  • Engineering and Design
  • Digital System Logic
  • College Chemistry I
  • Calculus-Based Physics

The computer science and engineering program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission and the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The Program Educational Objectives describe our graduates’ expected accomplishments during the first few years following their graduation from the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program. In order to meet the CSE Program Educational Objectives, our graduates:

1.  Attain a productive and challenging career in the computer science and engineering industry, government, academia, and is able to work collaboratively with peers;

2.  Solve complex computing and engineering problems by applying principles of computing and engineering and other professional skills and foundation;

3.  Are aware of societal aspects, ethical issues, and professional responsibility in computing and engineering practice, and have the ability to make informed judgement by applying ethical and legal principles;

4.  Are proficient in designing, developing, and assessing innovative systems and solutions that satisfy the computing and engineering requirements using hardware and software integration;

5.  Promote the product and services produced by computing and engineering needs through effective communication and teamwork;

6.  Continue to learn, and adapt to technological and cultural change.

The computer science and engineering program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission and the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
The following ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission Student Learning Outcomes describe the skills and knowledge acquired by CSE graduates:
  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  • An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  • An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions

Daniel Baqaeen

Computer Science and Engineering , '22

Daniel, a recipient of the 2022 Senior Regents’ Honors Award, which recognizes high-achieving students, is considering multiple software engineering job offers.

Daniel chose to pursue computer science and engineering out of a desire to be part of an innovative, rapidly evolving field where he can contribute to meaningful technological advancements. He was able to advance that goal at the University of Hartford by gaining a strong theoretical foundation alongside hands-on, applied learning opportunities.
