Admission Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (regional or national accreditation) in any field; related field preferred.

• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 required (exceptions may be considered if close to GPA minimum)

• Students will need to pass the required Connecticut licensure tests in order to qualify for state licensure and must take the content area test before applying for the Resident Educator Certificate (REC).

Requirements for Participating in TRP

• Enrolled in post-baccalaureate degree program leading to initial certification (ECE, ELEM, SPED)
• Must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Has completed a major or 30 semester hours of content specific credit

  • Has obtained a qualifying score on the appropriate subject area assessment

  • Has been enrolled in the residency program for at least one year

Things to Remember

• Resident Educator Certificates (REC) are valid for two years.
• Must be employed in Public School
• Once a Resident Educator Certificate (REC) is issued the candidate shall be the teacher of record, under the supervision of the superintendent, principal, administrator or supervisor designated by the superintendent, for at least 10 school months. They may serve in other roles during the 20-month period of the REC.
• Candidates participating in a residency program using experience under a REC instead of traditional student teaching are not eligible for a DSAP.
