1960–1969

1967: WALTER BAILEY

Walter Bailey (HAS) of Detroit, Mich., received the 2019 African & African American Achievement Award by the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit at a February gala celebrating Black History Month. The award recognizes the achievements of those who make a difference in the Detroit community.

1970–1979

1977: STEPHEN WILCOX

Stephen Wilcox (Barney) and Lori Wilcox '79 (ENHP) of Allen, Texas, will celebrate 40 years of marriage on September 15, 2019. They met at UHart and worked in the student cafeteria together.

They Shall Swoop is the latest novel by Gwendolyn Hill (A&S) of Richmond, Va. The mystery features art theft specialist detective, Ted Swoop, whose chase to stop intruders of an award-winning Afro-Caribbean art gallery leads to a tale of international intrigue, cover-ups, and mysterious deaths.

1980: JAMES ROVELLA

Former Hartford, Conn., police chief James Rovella (A&S), M'83 (Barney) of Wethersfield, Conn., was appointed by Governor Ned Lamont as the new commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. He will be in charge of the State Police, the Homeland Security department, and the forensic laboratory.

UHY Advisors, Inc. and UHY LLP announced the promotion of Shelly Romano (Barney) of Columbia, Md., to principal. She has 35 years of experience providing accounting and tax services to a variety of clients, including auto dealerships, commercial real estate partnerships, manufacturing and distribution companies, and family-owned businesses.

1985: DANIEL SALAZAR

Spanish classical guitarist Daniel Salazar M (Hartt) of Hartford, Conn., continued a Valentine's Day tradition by performing "Romance de la Guitarra," at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn. He is the recipient of several awards including a 2018 Citation for Artistic Contribution from the Connecticut General Assembly.

1989: STEPHEN DAVIS

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music announced the appointment of trombonist Steve Davis (Hartt), P'17 of Stamford, Conn., to its Roots, Jazz and American Music faculty. He is widely regarded as one of the leading improvisers on the trombone, and has previously been nominated by the Jazz Journalists Association as Trombonist-of-the-Year.

1990–1999

1991: SCOTT JOHNSON

Scott Johnson (A&S) of East Rockaway, N.Y., has been named to the executive and management teams at IDOC, a privately-held alliance of independent optometrists. He joined the IDOC team in December 2018 as director of strategic partnerships. Johnson has spent much of his 20-year career in the optical market.

1993: DANIEL DANILLOWICS

Westfield Bank announced the appointment of Daniel Danillowicz (A&S) of Burlington, Conn., as assistant vice president and mortgage loan officer. He has more than 25 years of mortgage loan experience, most recently as senior loan officer with Washington Trust in Glastonbury, Conn.

1996: LYNN SMITH

Lyn Smith M (ENHP) of Peabody, Maine, has authored a new book titled What Makes an Opossum Tick? She is currently an instructional strategist/reading specialist at Kennebunk Elementary School. Smith presented her book as part of the Pasco Lecture Series at the Graves Library in Kennebunkport in March.

The Southampton (N.Y.) Kiwanis Club awarded its Sag Harbor Village "Top Cop" honor to Sergeant Robert Drake (A&S) of Hampton Bays, N.Y. at a dinner January 25 at the Long Island Aquarium. Sgt. Drake has been with the Sag Harbor Police Department since 1999, and was promoted to his current rank in 2016.

2000–2009

Coldwell Banker Coastal Homes has announced that Richard J. Walter M (ENHP) of Westerly, R.I., joined the firm as an independent sales associate working out of their Westerly, R.I., office. Walter is a retired teacher, having taught for 20 years at Stonington High School.

2003: TESS KRYSPIN LOMBARD

The American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review Physicians announced the selection of Dr. Tess Kryspin Lombard M (Barney) of Plantsville, Conn., as the recipient of the 2019 CHCQN Diplomate Achievement Award. She is currently the chief medical officer at StayWell Health Center in Waterbury, Conn. 

2004: JOE GAMALDI

Houston Police Officers Union (HPOU) President Joe Gamaldi (A&S) of Spring, Texas was quoted extensively in an article on khou.com regarding recent violence toward police officers in Houston. He has been with the Houston Police Department since 2008. Gamaldi is currently assigned to night patrol but serves in a full-time capacity at HPOU.

2004: JOANNA HERSEY

Joanna Hersey D (Hartt) of Laurinburg, N.C., is a member of the all-female brass quintet Seraph. Their compact disc, Asteria, made the 61st Grammy Awards nomination list in the Chamber Music/Small Ensemble category. Hersey is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke.

2008: JONATHAN C. SILVER

Jonathan C. Silver (CETA) of Bnei Brak, Israel, joined with other volunteers to plant trees for a new forest in memory of Amiad Yisrael Ish-Ron. Amiad was born to his mother who was shot during a terrorist attack and rendered in critical condition. While Amiad did not survive, the mother recovered and was at the plantings.

2010–2018

2011: MICHAEL GOEMANS

Michael Goemans (ENHP), M'13 (ENHP) of New Britain, Conn., and Sean O'Donovan '14 (A&S) of East Hartford, Conn., will have new roles at the University in the newly formed Division of Student Success. Goemans, formerly a certification officer in ENHP, will be an assistant director. He will also lead the Student Success Collaborative. O'Donovan, formerly the office coordinator in the Center for Reading and Writing, will be a first-year advisor and success co

2011: JP QUALTERS

Playing the role of Theo, JP Qualters (Hartt) of Waltham, Mass., was among the touring company of School of Rock: The Musical. Ahead of the tour's stop at the Boston Opera House in February, he participated in a wickedlocal.com Q&A.

2012: ZACH DRYDEN

Zach Dryden of West Hartford, Conn., is part of the 43rd class of Quest, a program for high-performing mid-career professionals. The 10-month program provides training on advanced leadership practices and is supported by Leadership Greater Hartford. He is associate counsel, privacy and security, at Aetna.

Jacky Lamenzo (ENHP) of Needham, Mass., has written a children's book, Addy Wants to Fit In. The tale is about a little ant who is a picky eater. The book parallels the author's own childhood and was inspired, in part, by a children's book course she took while at UHart.

2014: JOHN DELVENTO

A musician, composer, and teacher, John DelVento (Hartt) of Vernon Rockville, Conn., has provided musical content for a variety of films, TV shows, advertising campaigns, video games, educational literature, and world music. Recently, he composed music featured in The Bachelor as well as a beer commercial which premiered during the Super Bowl.

2014: SEAN O'DONOVAN

2017: JOSH MEDERIOS

Bristol, Conn., City Councilor Josh Mederios D (ENHP) resigned to become the city's new superintendent of Parks and Recreation. Since 2017, he has served as the director of parks and recreation in the town of Cheshire, Conn.

Jamie Rogers '96 (Barney) of Chestnut Hill, Mass., welcomed a boy, Matthew Ray Rogers, on July 20, 2018. Jamie is working in finance and in practice with her father at Wells Fargo Advisors in Waltham, Mass.

Brian Wood '95 (Barney) and his wife, Raquel, of Bristol, Conn., welcomed their first child, Hudson William Wood, on February 19, 2019. Brian is a former UHart baseball player and has worked at ESPN the past 22 years. He is the manager of the stats and information group (SIG).
