UTC State Compliance Tax Intern
United Technologies Corporation

"As an intern I work on preparing and reviewing State Income Tax Returns, as well as Franchise Tax Returns and their calculations. I also prepare IDR packages for auditors and gather all information and calculations they might need. Since I am the only state tax intern I work side by side with my managers in preparing these returns and packages and have been learning a lot from them."

"The Barney School has well prepared me for my interview, as well as making me competent and confident in myself and skills to perform in my new role at UTC. Everything learned in my BAR211 class has been easily transferable to corporate life and my professional growth."

International Tax Intern
United Technologies Corporation

"I am an International Tax Intern at United Technologies Corporation (UTC).  I mainly engage in retrieving data from various databases, and entering input into Dividend Templates. By running calculations in excel, and providing support work papers, I help the Treasury and Tax departments decide whether to approve or decline dividend requests."

"The Barney School enabled me to successfully join United Technologies by honing my soft skills. Bar 211 gave me the extensive knowledge about interviews, and let me practice with a mock interview the day before my UTC interview! This preliminary round gave me the opportunity to become comfortable with the interviewing process, and eventually get my internship."

International Tax Compliance Intern
United Technologies Corporation

"Currently I am interning in International Tax Compliance with two other interns. In this position I prepare and review international income tax returns, prepare IRS request packages for residency certificates, assist in preparing e-file packages for the consolidated UTC return, and prepare 338 elections for newly acquired entities. The interns in the office are able to help each other even though we work in different departments, we will also socialize during lunch and hit the gym together. The Barney School has prepared me in career readiness especially when interviewing and listening attentively to managers. Barney has helped me boost my networking skills, which has helped me connect to the people I work with."

Tax Intern
United Technologies Corporation

"I am a Tax Intern at United Technologies. I currently work with the Sales and Use Tax Group in the Tax Department. One of my main duties is completing monthly reconciliations for Otis Elevator Company.  These reconciliations compare the balance in the General Ledger and the Tax 30 files. In addition, I also submit sales and use tax data to Ernst and Young at the beginning of the month. Something that I had struggled with going into college was professional events. I always had a difficult time being confident in my abilities. The Barney School helped me become a more well rounded student by offering courses that gave lessons on how to network and interview properly such as BAR 211. I feel that these courses gave me the confidence that I had always been lacking and helped me achieve the success I have today."
