Assistant Professor, University of Hartford, USA August 2013 – Present

Appointed as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Acoustics in August 2013.

Currently developing and delivering lectures in a variety of undergraduate engineering subjects including Architectural Acoustics, Environmental Acoustics, Noise and Vibration, as well as supervising senior design projects.

Acting as Academic Advisor to freshman students.

Continuing research in the field of Environmental Acoustics.

Writing and submitting research proposals as well as establishing collaborative links with private industrial partners and international research institutions.

Performing several administrative duties and contributing to the overall academic community at the University of Hartford.


Acoustics Engineer, Roughan & O’Donovan, Ireland June 2012 – July 2013

Primarily worked as a consultant to the National Roads Authority of Ireland (NRA).

Coordinated the development of all strategic noise maps for major roads in Ireland (approx 4,000km) in accordance with Phase II of EU Directive 2002/49/EC.

Successfully delivered noise map results to the Environmental Protection Agency (the designated national authority).

Acted in an adjunct role at Trinity College Dublin as course coordinator for the Institute of Acoustics’ distance-learning Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.

Delivered presentation to delegates from Croatia through the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX) Program.

Successfully became Chartered Engineer in June 2013.


Post Doctoral Research Fellow, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland Jan 2008 – June 2012

Developed advanced strategic noise mapping techniques for the national roads network along with continued research in the field.

Assisted the NRA adopt a new noise calculation method along with the deployment of a noise monitoring network and the coordination of a post-EIA evaluation study.

Nominated by the Department of the Environment to represent Ireland as an expert in a European Technical Forum of Experts (CNOSSOS-EU) for the development of guidelines for the competent use of future common noise assessment methods.

Appointed Irish course coordinator for the Institute of Acoustics’ distance-learning Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.

Delivered lectures to undergraduate students in a variety of engineering subjects including Acoustics, Computer Science and Mechanics of Solids.

Invited to present aspects of my research to the SENSEable City Lab at MIT.


Director of Infrasonic Ltd., 28 Casino Road, Marino, Ireland June 2008 – June 2012

Founded a noise and vibration consultancy company, Infrasonic Ltd., along with two colleagues from Trinity College Dublin.

Coordinated a wide range of acoustic projects (e.g. background noise assessments, compliance monitoring) and delivered high quality technical reports and EIS documents.

Developed excellent management skills e.g. client management, project scoping, budgeting and have excellent knowledge of acoustics legislation and policy.

Awarded Innovation Voucher from Enterprise Ireland (2008).


Environmental Acoustician, National Roads Authority, Ireland April 2007 - Jan 2008

Developed all strategic noise maps for major roads in Ireland (approx 600km) in accordance with Phase I of EU Directive 2002/49/EC.

Advised the NRA on many issued related to environmental noise, e.g. reviewed several Environmental Impact Statements and assisted in public procurement tender evaluations.
