Ira Braus has taught music history at Bates College, New England Conservatory, Harvard College, and piano at State University of New York at Oneonta.
Dr. Braus has had his writings published in Music Perception, 19th Century Music, Journal of Music Theory, Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, Theory and Practice, Indiana Theory Review, Early Keyboard Studies Newsletter, Coda,Brahms Studies I, and Search 3. In addition, he has written the foreward to The Second Century of New Music: Search Compendium, 2008-2009 (Mellon Press). Centaur Records released his recording of the complete late Brahms piano music in 2007. His book, Classical Cooks: A Gastrohistory of Western Music, came out in 2006 (Xlibris Books).
In 2010, he presented a paper at the New England Conference of Music Theorists at the University of Connecticut. He has been a guest speaker at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, MIT Media Lab Perception Group, and the Second Annual Conference on Food and Culture (Boston University, 1995). Braus is also on the editorial board of The Norton History of Western Music.
In 2013, Braus was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music and Media Technology, McGill University.
