Libby Nye, a graduate of the Juilliard School, has been a soloist and principal dancer with many companies, including the Jose Limon Company and The American Dance Theater at Lincoln Center. Her training in modern dance was with Jose Limon, Martha Graham, and Merce Cunningham, and in ballet with Antony Tudor, Alfredo Corvino, and Margaret Craske. She was director and choreographer of her own company in New York and has taught and reconstructed Limon works throughout Europe, Canada, and the United states.
Nye has been on the faculties of international festivals such as Centro Interrazionale di Danza (Rome), International Tanzwerk (Germany), and Centre International de la Paris. She has been a faculty member of the Juillard School, Alvin Ailey's American Dance Center, the Jose Limon School, and taught at colleges and universities throughout the United States. Nye developed the Dance major at Pomona College, where she was director and Artist in Residence. For thirteen years she was professor of Dance at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, where she taught and reconstructed Limon repertory and was also guest teacher, teaching company class for major dance theaters. Recently she has been on the faculty of Boston Conservatory. Eastern Connecticut Ballet, Harvard, and Brown University.
