Before being named dean of the Hartford Art School in 2011, Nancy Stuart was executive vice president and provost of the Cleveland Institute of Art (2002–11). She served on the faculty of the School of Photographic Arts & Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology prior to being elected chair of applied photography, followed by associate director of the school, and lastly, associate dean of the college (1984–2002). She was a founding faculty member of Lansing Community College’s Photographic Technology Program (1975–1984). She was an editor for the fourth edition of the Focal Press Encyclopedia of Photography released in 2007. Visual Studies Workshop Press published her photographic project DES Stories: Faces and Voices of People Exposed to Diethylstilbestrol in 2001. She served on the executive committee of the Society of Photographic Educators (SPE) national board of directors (2007–15) and currently serves on the Board of Governors at the Hill Stead Museum in Farmington, Conn., and as an elector at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Conn.
