Dr. Power Boothe, Dean of the Hartford Art School made a thought provoking presentation titled "Why Art Matters" to Emeriti Association members at the October 7, 2010 meeting.

Dean Boothe's presentation challenged the audience of 45 Emeriti Association members to consider the ways in which language, society and reality as perceived by mankind relate to the many ways in which art, now as in the past, has been central to our civilization.

Dean Power Boothe asked us to reflect on a wide range of subjects, from the cave paintings of Lascaux from 40,000 BCE to the role of linguistics in modern society.

Business Meeting

Virginia Hale
Emeriti Association Executive Secretary and Treasurer Virginia Hale presented a slate of officers for the coming year, and gave a report on the finances of the Association.
Bob Wallace
Emeriti Association Co-Chair Bob Wallace presided over the business meeting, including the election of officers for AY2011.
Walter Harrison
President Walt Harrison updated the Emeriti on the enrollment and fiscal situation of the University. He explained that the financial aid given to students had increased by 10% compared to last year, which led to a stable enrollment for this academic year.

Paddy Cairns, EA Secretary, greeted and provided name tags to all arriving Emeriti Association members.
