Institute for Translational Research

The Institute for Translational Research furthers public scholarship and translational research through substantive paradigms, rigorous methods, and authentic partnership reciprocity. Our initiatives "translate" scientific results into relevant outcomes for community and the professions.

We aim to:

  • Promote scholarship of engagement and application in community, for community
  • Foster internal and external funding through effective grants administration
  • Support faculty development and intellectual contributions to the professions

The Institute for Translational Research supports distinctive yet integrated content centers:

  • The Center for Health, Care, and Well-Being
  • The Center for Leadership in Education and Health
  • The Center for Learning and Professional Education
  • The Center for Montessori Studies

Faculty, partners, and community affiliations join together to:

  • Conduct research that will advance outcomes in health, care, and well-being
  • Create outreach and internship opportunities to prepare the next generation of scientists, clinicians, and educators
  • Refine educational programs that further the professions

Faculty, partners, and community affiliations join together to:

  • Conduct scholarly activities that inform best practices and contribute to professional discourse
  • Create scholarly exchange among University faculty and students
  • Refine collaborations that connect students and institutional partners in the Greater Hartford and global communities

Faculty, partners, and community affiliations join together to:

  • Conduct public scholarship, the scholarship of teaching, and other community-engaged research to inform best practices for professional learners
  • Create apprenticeships and learning communities to extend professional learning
  • Refine partnership activities to inform each other and our professions

THE CENTER FOR Montessori Studies

The Center for Montessori Studies is an intellectual community co-founded by researchers and practitioners contributing to Montessori education and the broader implications of Dr. Maria Montessori’s theories in order to:

  • Create new knowledge about Montessori education through research in our greater Hartford community as well as the larger international Montessori community.
  • Facilitate exchange to generate and disseminate new knowledge about the Montessori movement through research.
  • Advance the field of Montessori education through structures that support sustaining collaboration among researchers, practitioners and the global community.

In addition, the ITR provides support for internally and externally-funded projects and co-sponsors popular annual events including ENHP Day and the Connecticut STEM Conference, thereby illustrating the college’s commitment to excellence through relevance.
