Tina Berrien has been part of the Human Resources Development team as a Service Partner since 2008. Working in that department, she has the pleasure of getting to know firsthand many of the faculty and staff employed by the University, as well as the students. Being part of such a dynamic and diverse community is one of the things she loves most about UHart.
I wanted another way to be a part of this University and to give back for the educational and cultural benefits available to me and my family. We have taken classes here, seen amazing productions by The Hartt School, and watched several of our athletic teams compete.
It is a privilege to be a part of this University and to have the ability to give back to the institution. I believe in our mission. I see lives changed, and want that to continue.
The faculty, the staff, and especially our students! We are amazing! The breadth of talent and knowledge is breathtaking. I learn something new every day and I continue to be fascinated by the community that surrounds me.
You can have it all here—if you are an art major, you can take business classes; if you’re a business major, you can dance. There is something here for everyone, and because of the opportunities to explore topics outside of a given major, our students receive a well-rounded education.
I genuinely like coming to work every day and being a part of such a dynamic community. I am lucky because in any given day I come in contact with staff, students, faculty, parents, and visitors.
My favorite event is something relatively new that is on its way to becoming a tradition—the now annual Magnificent Hog River Picnic held in late summer. It is a time when staff and faculty come together to relax and enjoy an old-fashioned picnic and I enjoy the easy comradery and sense of community of the event.

Tina has a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of New Hampshire and is currently trying to decide what courses she may want to pursue at UHart. Outside of work, she enjoys singing and is a member of the Hartt Community Division Adult Chamber Choir, the Sondata Celesti, and sings with her church choir. She also loves traveling, visiting art museums, and going to the theater. Tina also runs a monthly program for adults with special needs.
About the Spotlight:
Faculty and staff are some of the University's greatest advocates, promoting our values, supporting our mission, and making UHart a force for good in our world. They support students everyday, even beyond classroom and office hours. They believe in students and many choose to display their vote of confidence through philanthropic contributions.
In our spotlights, we highlight some of the faculty and staff who support students through gifts to the UHart Impact Fund. By giving to this fund, they're helping our students thrive.
If you would like to share why you support UHart's students, please let us know!
