Gene Gort is a visual artist, video producer, and educator whose work aims to make the quotidian significant. Simple things are elegant, challenging, and revelatory. His use of technology in investigation focuses on the awareness of its role in determining meaning. His work employs diverse media, including video production, installation, multimedia performance collaboration, code-based drawing, photography, and digital print editions.

He has collaborated in multimedia musical performance projects with composer and sound artist, Ken Steen. He also has collaborated with Jeffrey Krieger, solo electronic cellist and principal cellist for the Hartford Symphony, and Robert Black, double bassist of Bang-on-a-Can All-Stars. He has presented at numerous international locations, including Dark Music Days Festival, Harpa, Reykjavik, Iceland; Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, Calif.; TheVideoArtFoundation, Barcelona; Cyberarts Festival, Boston, Mass. He has been nominated twice by the Rockefeller Foundation in the Film/Video/New Media and has received grants from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation, Pollack-Krasner Foundation, LEF Foundation, and The New England Foundation for the Arts: National Endowment for the Arts Regional Artists Projects, and has been awarded residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Peterborough, NH, and I-Park Artists’ Enclave, East Haddam, Conn.
